As a level one trauma center our annual volumes exceed 100 000 patients per year and holds more than 80 patient beds.

In our emergency department two resuscitation rooms are used to provide the initial assessment and evaluation of critically ill patients. The emergency medicine senior leads and directs all trauma and medical resuscitations.

The junior resident manages all intubations. The primary survey and performs all critical procedures. Each room is equipped with x-ray and advanced procedural capabilities such as fiber optic scopes. After stabilization in these rooms, Our patients are moved to cap one the critical care area of our emergency department.
Our emergency department is divided into three areas. Herein cat 1, we house 16 beds that operate with the capabilities of an icu in the emergency department. Each room is capable of advanced hemodynamic monitoring intubation and nursing ratios that allow for close monitoring of critically ill patients.

Welcome to category two, Here we have two additional pods that function as moderate acuity areas for bread and butter emergency medicine cases. Each bed has telemetry monitoring and dedicated ultrasound machines nearby to facilitate rapid incorporation.
Of point of care ultrasound residents are provided with electronic voice dictation or scribes to assist with charting and management of patient care. Additionally each resident is provided with a personal iphone during residency to facilitate secure communication with consultants and continuity of care.

Cat 2 also has a dedicated mental health treatment area and a calm location for safe care of psychiatric patients. We have around the clock psychiatric coverage via our team of virtual psychiatrists and on-site behavioral health social workers that coordinate placement of psychiatric patients.

Our category 3 area sees minor care and fast-track patients. There is a dedicated orthopedic treatment area equipped with splinting supplies and a c-arm. We have a wonderful pa team that works alongside us to help facilitate patient care and flow.

Category 4 is our pediatric area in the ed and sees a wide variety of common pediatric emergent presentations. This area is staffed by emergency medicine or emergency medicine and pediatric trained faculty. At henry ford we are proud of our ancillary staff and services that assist in the delivery of rapid high quality care of all of our patients.
The radiology department is in a central location. In the ed it includes dedicated ct scanners and an ultrasound suite. Radiologists provide interpretations around the clock and are available for questions.
We also have an ed pharmacy staffed by critical care trained pharmacists 24 7. they attend all resuscitations and provide real-time clinical consultations and patient education.
